Gum Disease

Periodontal disease is also called gum disease which affects the soft tissues and bones supporting the teeth.

It is important to take good care of your gums to make sure that germs can be eliminated and gum disease can be avoided. Careless attitudes in cleaning the teeth and gums can lead to gum disease which is painful and leading to problems.

If you cannot control the problems of gum disease then you must seek help from a dentist. Your dentist may check / examine your mouth, go through your medical history and take X-rays.

Gum Treatment Includes:

  • Antibiotic pocket therapy
  • Reattachment procedures
  • Root planning
  • Scaling

Non-Surgical Treatments:

Scaling – Scaling is quite useful in controlling gum disease. It can remove the tartar and plaque from the surface of your teeth and beneath the gums. It can be performed either by surgical equipment or laser.

Root Planning – It is yet another important non-surgical method to treat gum disease. It can stop the further build of plaque and tartar. It also stops the buildup bacteria which causes gum inflammation and hinder the reattachment of the gums.

Surgical Treatments:

Flap surgery – Small incisions are made in your gum to lift the gum tissues for proper scaling and root planing. Once you heal, you can clean your gums normally, and maintain good oral hygiene.

Soft Tissues Grafting – Gum disease may cause your gum line to recede. So, in this case, you need to have your soft tissues reinforced. It is normally done by removing the soft tissues from your palate. This covers your exposed teeth roots and give a pleasing look to your teeth and stop the further gum recession.

Tissue-stimulating proteins – Another popular method is to apply a gel on the affected area. This gel contains the same proteins which are responsible for the growth of gum, developing healthy teeth and enamel.
